The Mayku FormBox is a desktop vacuum former developed for crafters and designers. One of the most challenging aspects of onboarding users to the product was teaching novice makers how to use the machine and make designs suitable for vacuum forming. The process is deceptively simple and requires some basic considerations to ensure quality results.
The product team at Mayku designed a set of projects which are included in the starter kit of the FormBox. These templates feature interactions that explicitly teach the fundamental rules of vacuum-form template design and casting, in addition to creating at least one complete object with the machine.
Two of the templates feature two-part designs that require the user to either add to or take away from the form to prepare it for use. In doing so, they physically touch the concept that is being taught, and have an example to refer to when designing their own shapes.
